This camp was held in a very poor and tribal area of India. The team took an 18 hour bus journey on very bad roads to reach the village. People of 65 years plus were carried by their families on their backs from surrounding towns for days for just to seek the care of the eye camps. These people would receive the urgent surgery that they required so they could return to their towns and care for their families – it was imperative that they received this treatment so they could support their loved ones.
On this particularly difficult mission, the weather was a real hindrance – the camp was held in little tin sheds in a heat of 54 degrees. During operating times, this made it quite unbearable to manage and at times they had to work through the night when temperatures were lower to carry out the work. Through several successful operations people would have their full sight restored and be able to go back to living a long and healthy life
